Why will  it ?   Please explain.

We are home owners and already pay to keep  our homes in a good and safe condition and fully expected that this would be necessary.

If you are referring to the phasing out of Gas boilers,  that will be  an unfortunate necessity but boilers don't last for ever anyway.

Although it's not law yet, it seems almost certain that the English Government will press ahead with its plans for a minimum EPC rating of 'C' for all homes in England and Wales by 2035 as part of its commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050.

By 2035 we'll have a different government so very hard to predict

[My bold print added to quotation]

But there is no English Government: the other three parts of the UK do have their own assemblies, by one title or another,  yet England does not. And if it did, it would surely not have a jurisdiction including Wales!

Thanks for explaining.

I don't expect that to be a worry for us but I appreciate that it might be for many others and especially if,  the homes are being rented out to others.

As we know, the situation is still unclear and as someone else has said, it's unlikely to be the same government for much longer.

As the government are dragging their feet and Labour break every promise they make,  I wouldn't expect much announcing on that front yet.

Not really, they all have the same extremist Nett Zero policy.

One thing we can be pretty sure of, Labour's policy will either be as bad or, more likely, even more extreme.

Life must be so simple when you can blame someone else for your problems.

When all else fails it’s them Lefties,Socialistswho would undoubtedly do everything worse than the most inept Conservative.

First they came for the landlords

Because I was not a landlord
Then they came for the homeowners
And now I am in the crap

Future-EPC-Rating-C-Requirements.svg

To upgrade many houses (older ones in particular) to a C grade for an EPC could cost up to £25,000. It may not even be possible at all for some.

As regards the law to force Landlords to upgrade their properties to grade C that is one of the reasons many landlords are selling up, the supply of rented accommodation is shrinking and rents are skyrocketing.

I checked the EPC for my mother in laws house.

It's a 1960 semi.

It only got a D rating despite having cavity wall insulation, 100mm loft insulation, a condensing boiler and being fully doubled glazed ! i.e. it would fail the C rating ! !

Wall Cavity wall, filled cavity Good
Roof Pitched, 100 mm loft insulation Average
Window Fully double glazed Average
Main heating Boiler and radiators, mains gas Good
Main heating control Programmer and room thermostat Average
Hot water From main system Good
Lighting Low energy lighting in 8% of fixed outlets Very poor
Floor Suspended, no insulation (assumed) N/A
Secondary heating Room heaters, mains gas N/A

It appears it might pass if all the lighting was swapped for "low energy" types. But, in the case of a rental property, that's surely down to the tenant to buy and/or replace the bulbs with LED types ? ! ?

Quote Chekhov,    without all the junk evidence:

That's what I said at first,  it's all about getting you off the hook with any costs.

You are just one in a country full of people,  and we will all have to do the same but, there's only you complaining  ( as always )
