hackey lad
Also today was a very slow news day. The only other domestic story was an outbreak of monkey pox in Cornwall. You know , I think I agree with you . I didn't know they had monkeys in Cornwall
Resident
It's not that easy. Different crimes have different causes. And in many cases tackling the causes does come down to how much money we as a society are prepared to spend. And not just paying for more policing either. Many of the crimes that are rising are as a result of things such as poverty, drug dependency, homelessness and mental health which have got worse over the years and will take years and huge investment to improve. Barnsley has a massive Spice problem in the town centre. The police are very noticeable in their absence and council enforcement simply move them out of sight just outside of town centre into nearby residential areas. They simply do not care. I used to live near the main police station in Barnsley and even then it was rare to see any of them about. They regularly put a camera van on a road called Laithes Lane, a busy main road, serves several industrial estates and nettles in between 2 large residential estates. Now I've no issues with that except for the fact that, in full view of this van, at the start and end of the school day there are people parking illegally on both crossing and school zigzags, driving onto the pavements and various other offences like mobile phones use yet the police do absolutely nothing about it. Recently officers in Doncaster told a 10yr old who had been robbed of his bike and assaulted by 6 older youths to go home and they'd call him later. The poor lad had dialled 999 in fear of them coming back! South Yorkshire Police are NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE However it's not limited to the police. The CPS, the courts and the prison service are woefully inadequate due to the namby-pamby lefty approach to punishment.

Top Cats Hat
South Yorkshire Police are NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE Since the disbanding of Strathclyde Police and the formation of Police Scotland, SYP has now got to be the worst police force in the UK. Incarceration rate (Prisoners per 100,000 population) England & Wales - 141 Sweden - 57 USA - 655 I personally would like to be more like Sweden than the USA! Swedens crime rate is much lower than ours, we should be copying their system, not the system of the USA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate#By_country
Penistone999
Counter Terrorism Police are now involved. Sounds like there is more to this than first thought. https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/barnsley-stabbing-counter-terror-officers-assisting-south-yorkshire-police-with-investigation-1-9340359
Top Cats Hat
Incarceration rate (Prisoners per 100,000 population) And the prison debate shouldn't solely be about numbers. We should also be looking at who we are locking up. There are an awful lot of people in jail for crimes of shoplifting and benefit fraud while people convicted of violent crime are often given suspended sentences. Prisons are full, but full of the wrong people. We should NEVER be locking up people for fraud, tax evasion, benefit fraud etc, when there are muggers, robbers, drug dealers and drug users walking free from court with just a fine. What actually happened was that the counter terrorism cops were initially involved when the woman was identified, which is not unusual in cases like this. They are no longer involved, and the woman is now receiving a mental health assessment. And to rain on your parade even further, the hero who followed her and talked her into putting the knife down was a Pakistani market Trader call Abdul Razzaq!
