Final call to save the world?

Recommended Posts

While the industrial world could go a long way to help reduce pollution & the increase in global warming with new technology & renewable energy sources, it won't be much good without the control of over population, which is mainly down to developing & poorer 3rd world countries.

we’ve tried bombing them, and while did that cut population levels down significantly, it did also drive more of them to flee to Europe, said the swivel-eyed loons.

We could try bribing them instead, but all that foreign aid goes into the pockets of the kleptomaniac despots at the top, said the swivel-eyed loons.

Time for a Plan C, I think.

With the use of widespread fake news and populist parties, is there any hope for real politics?

The world cannot meet its target without changes by individuals, urging people to:

buy less meat, milk, cheese and butter and more locally sourced seasonal food - and throw less of it away • drive electric cars but walk or cycle short distances • take trains and buses instead of planes • use video conferencing instead of business travel • use a washing line instead of a tumble dryer • insulate homes • demand low carbon in every consumer product

That will never happen, so I guess we are all doomed, eventually.

Too many people globally. Way too many.

Kill all humans and global warming will take care of itself.

Other than that, how about mass boycott of countries causing the most environmental damage? Also freely sharing new green technology with developing countries?

All new housing should have solar panels, high levels of insulation and grey water systems for a start.

The conservative brought in those standards for all new houses, then relaxed the standards to encourage more building :loopy:

A quick google brought this up. https://hellogiggles.com/news/who-worlds-top-pollution/

"China is the world's No. 1 polluter. It burns more coal than the rest of the world combined. It produces more than a quarter of the world's human-caused global warming gases, nearly as much as North America and Europe put together."

However, the U.S. shouldn’t be gloating because, as Reuters reported, the Global Carbon Project ranked the world’s worst nations for pollution based on carbon dioxide emissions — and the U.S. was number two after China. As of June 2017, here are the top 10 worst nations when it comes to pollution:

1. China

2. United States

3. India

4. Russia

5. Japan

6. Germany

7. Iran

8. Saudi Arabia

9. South Korea

10. Canada

Might I suggest after reading this, whatever we do to "save the world" will be like an old lady/man piddling in the sea, make no difference whatever.

Agreed, but we are happy to buy billions of pounds of stuff they have made, and so continue the problem.

As an example, years ago, I used to buy circuit boards from a firm manufacturing in Roherham. Their chemical recycling costs were very high, as they (rightly) had to have them disposed of correctly - that was a major part of their costs. They closed down as they became uncompetitive with China, who were allowed to just pour the waste chemical down the drain.

If we impose environmental regulation on our own companies, then we should only allow imports that comply with the same standards.

An awful ot of the world's problems could be helped by more fairness and equality. And working together instead of in competition with each other.

Is this because of the size of the country or is it per capita?

A huge number of people each making small changes, (and maybe a few big ones,) can make a difference.

3D printed houses can be built very cheaply and quickly, and have any requirements automatically built in.
