The Royal Family Discussion Thread

In all honesty I would rather have my lifestyle to theirs.

Maybe if we still had portraits of the monarch displayed in homes and schools, the national anthem was sung more regularly and people stood at the end of films in cinemas whilst the national anthem was being played we would have less dissent and a feeling of belonging and respect.

Perhaps an opportunity could be given to critics of the royal family to shadow a member for 3 months to experience the reality of their life.

Less decent because of brain washing.

I believe the queen still believes she was put on the throne by God, and has Divine right to rule.

Do any of her subjects actually believe that? I doubt it.

This country is class riddled because of this nonsense.

The Victorians firmly believed that everyone was born into their place in society, and it was an affront to God to try and change the order of things, thus you were expected to 'know your place' and not aspire to anything more or you would incur the wrath of God. Very useful for maintaining order.

Times have changed, but the aristocracy still sit comfortably behind this crap, having done nothing to earn their wealth and privileges.

Do you truly and honestly believe that first sentence ?

Some members of the royal family are hard working, but a lot more aren't. What for example is the point of Beatrice and Eugenie? Or Andrew for that matter who seemed to do nothing in his role as ambassador for business other than feather his own nest?

What sort of ridiculous statement is that.  Might as well be chanting  "...what is the point of you?"

They are just somebody's children. Somebody who happens to be a member of the royal family.

They may have been born with a silver spoon and leg up but so do lots of other families in this world. There are plenty of middle and upper-class families whose children had a nice easy start in life. But that doesn't mean they dont toss it all away when they get to adulthood. Just as equal there are plenty of people in this world who start with very low income and very modest Beginnings  managed to work hard, make a success and become extremely wealthy.

Both Beatrice and Eugenie studied hard, got their degree qualifications and they both have worked their way into careers.  They have jobs in the real world just like any one else does. Yes they may well be executive level jobs - yes they may well be very very white collar jobs ....but so what?   That is their choice and that is what they studied for.

Sometimes your statements reek of jealousy and reverse snobbery..

Beatrice and Eugenie both do charitable work, I don’t think they have to. Admittedly not as much as other royals who receive money from the Sovereign Grant. The charities they support will be grateful adding their names as royal patrons and making public appearances to support them.  Are they really doing any harm.

As already been said they can’t help being members of the royal family.

This sounds like some teutonic zealot ranting in 1939.

Very thought inspiring thoughts, imagine if the Royal family were to go just think of all the changes that would be needed to coinage and notes, army regimental titles,  badges and emblems. No more Royal Navy or Royal Air Force etc.

Thank goodness the Royal Mail will be delivering again tomorrow.

Much easier and better to leave things as they are.

I forgot to mention all those people , military, police, etc.,who swore allegiance to the Crown have to be considered.

What about all those people employed by Royalty in the palaces and on Royal duties.

It doesn't bear thinking about

How could you call things relating to Wales, N. Ireland and Scotland British. Another massive problem.
