Dashcam installer recommendations required

Recommended Posts

I'm not an odd job man, every job has its professional, I expect and require a professional service and will be paying for that.

There's no corrolation between telecommunications and the job I require.

You don't have to take it to the main dealer for work, but if you want to keep the warranty up you can't have it serviced by your grandad.

Well said ! Totally agree.

What is the fascination with dash cams?

Your insurer may take it into account their presence and reduce your premiums.

There are several cases where people deliberately:

flash you to pull out then drive into the side of your car

stop suddenly when approaching a roundabout

stop on a roundabout

They have also proved to be useful when you've been in an accident where fault is dispute.

These are just a few instances I can think of where a dash-cam would be a boon.

They save your bacon if you have a bump that's not your fault, but the other party is a lying scumbag to save their premium shooting up.

First day I had a dashcam fitted someone in a van dangerously overtook me in a 30 zone, jumped a red light then drifted into the middle lane of the motorway because he wasn't paying attention.

I reported him to his company. He denied it. I sent them the footage. He was disciplined for his driving AND lying.

If the threat of dashcams forces people to drive better, that can only be a good thing. Its not hard to drive to the rules of the highway code.

There was a good example on this forum just a few weeks ago (now deleted).

Some chump claimed a BMW cut them up on the A57 and side-swiped their Land Rover, they even reported this to the police.

Two days later dashcam footage appears in the Daily Mail website, clearly obvious that the exact opposite happened.

The Land Rover driver intentionally drove into the BMW then made a false police report to try and cover their tracks.

No fascination with me.

I renewed my car insurance in July via one of the comparison sites, not only was it a hundred pounds cheaper plus a free dash cam thrown in, it was actually with the very same insurance company.

I wouldn’t have bothered if the car didn’t need servicing and I rang Halfords and was very impressed not just with the speed and cost of the service but it also included a five minute tutorial by the installer on what all the knobs and tits were for.

First time I’d been in Halfords for several years,I gave them ten out of ten, I have no connection whatsoever with the company.

An insurance broker told me if you have a dashcam don't declare it to your insurer. Yes you might save a couple of quid on your premium however what dashcam manufacturers don't tell you is the failure rate of the devices. From simply saving corrupt files to not recording at all, the rate is quite high.

If in the event you're involved in an incident and your dashcam failed, leading you unable to provide footage then it gives your insurer an excuse to void your cover and we all know any excuse not to pay out will be taken..

A dashcam does NOT count as a modification to the vehicle.so there is no obligation to declare it.

I would, if in my van, but into my wife's £31k SUV I want a specialist. Having a pop myself would probably also endanger it's 7yr bumper to bumper warranty.

just looking at you add at the bottom of your page, how come you can not do it yourself if you do all this for others: Telephone Line & Data Engineer Sheffield & South Yorkshire

Line Extensions, Relocations, Repairs, Broadband, FreeSat & Sky Magic Eye, Data.

He did explain his warranty obligations and concerns in his original query.
