News article is dated 8 MAY 2017

Apparently it's tabled to be revisited again in the new year.

I just linked the original article.

That's what they said about banning smoking in pubs :)

I was talking to the singer with a band that works the east coast a lot ,many of the clubs they play turn a blind eye to smoking,i know of at least one in Barnsley that does the same.Never heard of a prosecution for allowing it.

This should not be allowed to happen - it's wholly unfair on the tenant.

Why is it?   Its not their property.  They are renting it from a landlord (in this case the taxapayers). The landlord sets the rules about what a tenant can and cannot do in their leased asset.

Smoking is not accepted by everyone and that tenant may move out leaving the landlord forced to fix the damage before he can re-let to someone else.

If the allegedly hard done by 'tenant' wants freedom to  do what they want within bricks and mortar they can buy their own house instead.
