I agree (it had to happen once I guess) . It’s making a role where none is needed. Did they need one in Glasgow where they have reduced crime? (Don’t know but doubt it).  We neeed to do two things - catch teenagers carrying weapons before they use them (more police required I suppose) and to stop the majority of them wanting to carry weapons in the first place. 

 

Fun fact (I caught a snippet on 5live so don’t know the accuracy but don’t doubt it either) 74% of people who carry weapons will end up getting said weapons used on themselves.

Agree. Should do it routinely to anyone they feel warrants it. Why not issue them the little hand held metal detectors used at airports and events. That works without major disgruntlement and is quick

It's rife for abuse, intimidation and harrassment of anyone the police feel like. Carte blanche for bent coppers and authoritarian governments.

Watching BBC News this morning, the solution - according to the police and the woman interviewed - seems to be just more police.

 

While I'm sure it would help, I don't hear much about parenting.

Precisely...

That's why they don"t do it, lets have a 6months blitz, every available policeman out stopping and searching at random, then lets have a look at knife crime figures, bet you would see a dramatic fall.

There was something on the news this morning that more metal detectors are going to be deployed in London. To enter certain parts of the city you have got to go through these arched shaped detectors. The police said they are going to become a more familiar sight in the city.

Nice to know that certain parts of the city are being made safe and hopefully knife free.
