nick2
I heard that they couldn't get planning permission to change the hotel into apartments, perhaps they have finally manged to get it ?
2wentypence
I dont think they have PP yet, but the plans on display do still include converting the hotel to apartments. Cant see it being a problem. Few people want to see it demolished.
cgksheff
You can see the Planning Application with drawings and all the comments/objections recieved on The Council Website. The consultation period ended last month but it has not yet been scheduled for board consideration as yet.
GHS1961
Few people want to see it demolished. Really?, anyone I know who has expressed an opinion, thinks the place is an eyesore and should never have been built in one of the finest Victorian suburbs in Britain. I would gladly contribute towards its demolition
nick2
I don't think it's worth saving, it's not a nice building, it's horribly 70's, it should be demolished and replaced with something low/mid rise, that doesn't clear the tree tops, or something high-rise but inovative/interesting and in keeping with the surroundings. It's a fantastic building and should not and will not be demolished. It really sets off that hillside, views from Banner Cross or Nether Green would not be the same without it. The planning permission issues are probably mostly to do with the high density of pokey little low rise flats they want to build in the grounds. nick2
I guess the decision over it's fate will be more financial than aesthetic, if they can make more money by blowing it up then it's a gonner.
TattooedDoll
Does anyone know what's happening with Ballard Hall just up the road from the hotel? Is it still a total bomb site?
