spyro2000
Any advice on where best to study. I have done martial arts for many years but recently since being in Sheffield havent kept up with it. I have trained in mainly Kickboxing and Ninjutsu, is there anywhere that I can continue this up in Sheffers?

chefkicker
No worries Spyro When it comes to the Kickboxing I can hand on heart confidently say that we do offer kickboxing to a very advanced level. The tuition you get is 2nd to none. Any mistakes are spotted immediately and corrected or worked on there and then. Some people like to have their mistakes corrected while some prefer to be taught (for want of a better word) by a "crap" instructor who just takes their money and lets them do wrong techniques any which way they want without correcting them. We also have some great fighters to spar with, loads of hard fitness and padwork/bagwork etc. You will have to come and see for yourself when you come. intothered
Hi, you should try out Brian Aiken for MMA, especially if you want to imrove your groundwork. He does a "Ju Jitsu" class, but it is actually more MMA orientated as he is trainined in Thai Boxing too.

Crayfish
I train at AFK kickboxing and Gracie Barra Sheffield (Brazilian Jujitsu, in Hillsborough) Both top clubs and both include an aspect of MMA (though obviously doing them both together covers more ground)
chefkicker
I train at AFK kickboxing and Gracie Barra Sheffield (Brazilian Jujitsu, in Hillsborough) Both top clubs and both include an aspect of MMA (though obviously doing them both together covers more ground) I agree with Crayfish. Its good to train at a specialised striking school and a specialised grappling school. It is advantageous if both of them have an MMA outlook or you will spend a lot of time learning techniques that are useless. At AFK we do mainly stand up training, we do some ground but i must admit that our ground work is very limited compared to say the BJJ lads. A lot of people who train MMA will use us for stand up and one of the BJJ schools for their grappling and will also come to us on a Friday and use both sets of skills in the ring (stand up and ground). There have been fridays when everyone is taking sparring the MMA route as opposed to the kickboxing route. AFK have always kept an open mind when it comes to innovative areas for training. I'm out of action myself through 1 too many injuries but I strongly recommend The Wicker Thai Boxing Gym on Effingham Road, nr Attercliffe. A great bunch of lads and very tallented, if you like hard work and results. Go There.
