British tourists entering the EU for up to 90 days in any 180 days will be granted visa-free travel. So much for 'Project Fear' predictions of UK tourists being banned from going to Spain on their hols! You left out the flipside: only so long as the UK does not impose visa requirements on EU27 nationals. So much for 'regaining control of your borders'. In unrelated Brexity news, today Luxembourg confirmed that UK-based broadcasters were in advanced talks with its Ministry for Medias and Telecoms, to locate their EU operation there, but all had asked for 'great discretion', so no names released. At least, we know it's not the BBC: they're looking at the Netherlands or Belgium instead.

If Brexit has got this desperate that people will celebrate such minor announcements it really does show what an utter mess this is going to be. Where are any of the positives we were promised during the referendum?? There's no upside to this situation it's a shambles.

I don't recall the issue of visas being considered even semi-seriously by the pro-Leave campaigns pre-referendum. Such was the level of information at the time. Quote (...) David Cameron warned Britons that any exit from the EU could severely impact their travel rights and visa options in fellow European countries. But what of EU and EEA nationals living in the UK? After an exit, these nationals could face at least two years of uncertainty as negotiations commence following a leave-vote. No one, politicians included, is certain how EU citizens will be dealt with should the UK exit. In the week building up to the referendum Sky News Senior Political Correspondent, Sophy Ridge suggested that should the UK leave, EU citizens may be given the opportunity to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain should they qualify. Another scenario envisaged by Ridge is that EEA nationals would have to apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa. This would limit entry to only skilled workers. (...) The fact is, it's taken the EU to make the first regulatory move on 1st February 2018, 2 months before Brexit day, to achieve some degree of finality about this issue. Like I told you before: if the UK doesn't tackle pressing regulatory issues, the EU will eventually do it for the UK. This latest about visas for Britons, is exactly that: the EU says "ok, these are our rules for Britons post-Brexit; UK you match them for EU27 nationals, or they go in the bin and it's visas for all". Quite, in reality it's turned those who are unlucky enough to only have access to a blue passport into second class citizens in terms of rights, even within the UK! An irony that pretty much sums up Brexit Edited February 1, 2019 by Magilla
