The decision by Nissan is more to do with fueling and EU emission rules and not solely down to brexit. Interesting article about it here= https://www.ft.com/content/10862888-288c-11e9-a5ab-ff8ef2b976c7

Nobody is saying it’s purely down to brexit. It’s not, but it’s a factor. Now if we fall out on a no-deal, car and other manufacturers (steel was mentioned today) will be packing up and leaving quicker than you can say french made blue passports.

I think a last minute deal of some kind will be agreed as no deal is not in anybody’s interest...

I truly hope that’s the case.

Anyway, I saw this and thought of Car Boot.

Lorries will be able to drive straight off ferries and Channel Tunnel trains without making customs declarations in the event of a no-deal Brexit, the government has announced.

New guidance for importers and hauliers says firms would file a simplified form online in advance and pay duty later.

its not gonna help in the fight against people smuggling and illegal immigration? could be trucks rammed packed full of illegals piling into dover?

That's been well known and understood by the EU27 since long before May's "no deal is better than a bad deal", which got european capitals falling off their chairs laughing.

But then, party politics and parliamentary arithmetic in the UK both mean that this "interest" counts for beans on the UK side, still and now with less than 2 months to go to crunch time.

You're Brexiting on May's deal, a softer Brexit deal, or no deal. Personally, I'm still thinking 'no deal', because your government and Parliament are as f***ed as ever, and won't get unf***ed in time by end March.

for all those sticking their fingers in their ears over the Nissan announcement.

yes theres lots of reasons that complicate carmaking and are making it tougher and tougher BUT...........

On Sunday, when Nissan announced its decision not to build the X-Trail SUV in Sunderland, the firm's Europe chairman, Gianluca de Ficchy, said that "the continued uncertainty around the UK's future relationship with the EU is not helping companies like ours to plan for the future".

Brexit isnt helping and the uncertainty certainly doesnt help, the thing is, this uncertainty is completely avoidable, we voted for this uncertainty ourselves, and in doing so maybe tipping things over the edge.

LOL, a (german) Nissan line manager voted to leave to give the UK some humility

Nobody is disputing the fact that the Brexit uncertainty is not helping  businesses at the moment  that either import, export or do both .   However, not helping is not the same as the fall in the diesel car market which as a consequence means there is less demand for new diesel cars.

The people who are sticking their fingers in their ears are those people, who don't respect the democratic EU referendum result and blame Brexit for every negative impact on any UK based business.

Ministers fear Irish lobby influence over US post-Brexit trade deal

https://news.sky.com/story/ministers-fear-irish-lobby-influence-over-us-post-brexit-trade-deal-11628579

Speaking to Sky News after the prime minister instructed her MPs to vote against the backstop she negotiated in the Commons, congressman Boyle made a connection with a prospective trade deal. "If you renege, or you go back that does not affect just this current issue, but all future issues, you lose your credibility," he said.

Looks like some in the US haven't forgotten that they're a big supporter of the GFA :?
