who would last longer.... North vs South

Recommended Posts

Was anything learnt from the Chernobyl accident in Russia when the locals were exposed to radiation and what treatment they received in case there was a nuclear war? I know it’s a bit off topic but I’m just curious if there was any data kept.

If only the south of England was attacked by missiles, I don’t think it would make much difference to the north if radio active dust slowly spread north, it might allow us northerners time to say our goodbyes to our loved ones before nuclear dust reached us.

I would say the the lucky ones would be the people who took a direct hit from the missiles. Makes you go all cold when you think that it could happen.

Don't take this personally,  I1L2T3, but as I'm in a bolshie mood at the moment, and this subject has been bugging me for almost as long as I've been on SF, but why oh why do people (not just you) always look on the negative side of life on almost any subject posted here?🤔

I don’t. I look at things realistically.

Chernobyl wasn't a nuclear explosion thought, the radiation doses were quite different from how a bomb would behave. They have had detailed informtion though from other studies for much longer that is of more use.

If there's a positive spin you can put on Sheffield being hit by several thermonuclear warheads, please share it.

@HalibutI was not referring to this particular thread, but the general tendency on SF to moan about everything, or for a large proportion of the posters on here to find a negative angle to any subject, and then to shoot down anyone who questioned the permanent negativity.  It just seems, to me, that there are too many on here who could do with a bit more fun in their lives.

I remember once reading that Sheffield would get two in the East of the city: one south of where Meadowhall is now to knock out industry and major north south road communications, a further north to ensure that north south road communication is cut. One in the city centre and one in the south west of the city to take out railways lines south and west. Finningly would have been hit too. Redundancy would be built into the attack plan with most targets assigned multiple warheads.

There would be hardly anything or anybody left.

Agreed, in fact just one large bomb on the capital would send this country back to the dark ages, it would take many years to recover from it.

I know the survivalists in America have been preparing for years. I remember them going on and on right back when The Bay of Pigs fiasco was playing out and theyr'e still at it now. They have had a long wait, and is it worth it ?  Personally I think not. The conditions afterwards, I reckon, would be awful.

I'm noticing a lot of accents of people from "daaahn saaahf" in Sheffield of late. More and more Londoners are fleeing the hellhole that is London for working class people and coming up north where the pace of life is slower and cost of living is lower.
