gamezone07
Quote Online hate crime against disabled people rises by a third Social media firms urged to protect users as offences increase in England and Wales Neil Heslop, the chief executive, said: “Police are increasingly recording online offences, but we know it remains an under-reported area and that disabled people may have reservations about speaking out. “We suspect many crimes remain under the radar, with survivors never getting support and perpetrators facing no consequences.” He said hate crimes against disabled people could lead to long-term fear, anxiety and isolation.https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/may/10/online-hate-against-disabled-people-rises-by-a-third Quote Online abuse of disabled people is getting worse – when will it be taken seriously? Frances Ryan New research shows the extent of this depressing trend. Social media platforms and MPs have to get a grip of it One young woman with extensive facial scarring spoke of being repeatedly mocked in public, with children on local school buses banging on bus windows to get her attention as she goes by. Some passersby took her photograph and posted it on social media; others then posted hateful comments about her and tagged her to ensure she saw the abuse. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/may/10/online-abuse-disabled-people-social-media While other other online controversies rage on this is being reported, though only to a point, this will be the tip of the iceberg, and of course its is just as bad IRL, for many Disabled and Sick People(DASP) the online space is important as they may be housebound or have issues with the public arena. But, it doesn't seem to get the traction it should do, the disability movement seems very weak at the moment, and the allies Disabled and sick people need and want, seem to be largely absent. Mister M
I wonder too how much the 'debate' about benefits that disabled people allegedly receive embolden people to attack them both online, and in the real world. The CPS certainly recognise this as one oft he factors that motivate the hate. Sadly there are some pretty sick people out there who think the disabled are fair game for trolling and worse. Unfortunately supported by the post-Trump, post-Brexit 'free speech at all costs' brigade, who champion the rights of the perpertrators over those of their victims. 😡😡😡
