What is important in context, is not so much his personal relationships history, as his executive track record.

 

His personal relationships history 'just' provides an insight into his character as a person.

 

His executive track record provides a much more relevant insight into his managerial capabilities. And on that score, all you have to look at is his Parliamentarian voting record, and his London mayorship and Foreign Secretary periods.

What both candidates need to be challenged on, is this idea that we can just walk away, refuse to pay the €40bn and go it alone, while simultaneously claiming that everything will be OK because we can continue to trade on WTO terms, Gatt24 rules or the 1875 Huff-on-the Hill Parish Council Trading Arrangement.

 

All of the above cannot be done unilaterally. They all need the agreement of the parties concerned along with a great deal of good will. This will not happen if we just walk away on October 31st. telling the EU that they can whistle for their money. If we do, Sterling will crash and our economy will be in tatters within days. Tory members and most Brexiteers are being sold the lie that in 2019 a ‘can do’ spirit and plenty of ‘good old fashioned English pluck’ will get us through. The rules of C19 British imperialism do not apply in the early C21. 

 

Strip out all non-wholly British owned companies from the UK economy. Remove all non-UK owned technology. Remove all non-British immigrants from the country. Remove ALL non-English players from the Premier League. Remove all non-English specialists from the NHS. Remove all foreign investment in the UK economy. Remove all foreign films from the cinemas and all american television programmes from our living rooms. Remove Apple, Amazon, eBay, GPS and facebook from our computers, phones, satnavs and devices. Take all new cars, lorries and vans not built in the UK off our roads. What will we have left? Very little, and this is exactly what will happen if we cease to trade with the rest of the world.

 

We have been living in a hugely integrated world for decades now and no amount of flag waving and moaning into our beer about foreigners will ever change that.

 

It is safe to say that we won’t be leaving the EU without a deal on October 31st. and politicians on all sides need to be honest about this.
