Having done it myself on a number of occasions, of course they can.

 

If the union is wrong then pointing that out and remedying that is not going against the union, it is actually supporting it.

Sorry, I don't agree at all. I'm  not saying it can't  hapoen, but in reality it is a conflucted situation.

No chance of the union saying one of the reps is wrong, they are highly protective of the staff . Even when it is shown the rep is useless nothing is done and I speak from personal experience.

It is neither for or against anyone.

Being sure that the advice given is impartial though is difficult, but easier to believe if the person giving it is actually impartial and not likely to be biased.
