Sheffield gales 1962

Recommended Posts

We were fortunate the summer before Sheffield Council contractors rubber sealed the roof when they did the wrong street therefore did not loose any roof tiles.

But at the time I was starting my second Year at Myers Grove and lived on Cross Addy Street (off Addy Street). therefore to catch the bus I had to walk down to Infirmary Road through Portland Street which was being stripped out prior to demolition but the roof slates had not been removed.

Therefore the journey down Portland Street weas one of avoiding flying slates coming of the roof,

When I got to school there was only enough to make up about one class out of about 16. the up side was we were sent home at lunch time when it calmed down
