Consequences Of Brexit [Part 8] Read First Post Before Posting

Message added by Vaati

Mod Note: As we are getting rather tired of seeing reports about this. The use of the word Remoaners  is to cease. Either posts like adults, or don't post at all. The mod warnings have been clear.

Message added by mort

In addition to remoaner we are also not going to allow the use of libdums or liebore - if you cannot behave like adults and post without recourse to these childish insults then please refrain from posting. If you have a problem with this then you all know where the helpdesk is.

Just seen the Tories' manifesto about Brexit.

First it was "sunlit uplands"

Then a bit later, "there might be some bumps"

Now it's "we are really ambitious, we aim to rescue 80% of UK trade through FTAs in the next 3 years"

Looking good, lads, looking real good ;)

Is rescue the right word? as I'm sure in the manifesto it states "covered."

Can you provide a link?  I can't see anywhere where it states the word rescued, but you've implied you are quoting something. What are you quoting?

More mentions of fishing in the manifesto than manufacturing, which gets 1 mention.

Fishing is worth about £1.4 billion per annum to the UK, and employs 24000.

According to Make UK (formerly EEF), UK manufacturing currently:

  • employs 2.7 million people – earning an average of £32,500
  • contributes 11% of GVA
  • accounts for 45% of total exports – totalling £275bn
  • represents 69% of business research and development (R&D)
  • provides 13% of business investment

I don't understand the focus of Conservatives and Brexiteers on fishing, so any of you Conservative voters and/or Brexit voters care to explain.

Car Boot, you must have an opinion on this?

This is what actually appears in the Tory election manifesto on Brexit:

"We aim to have  80 per cent of UK trade covered by free trade agreements within the next three years, starting with the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Japan."

You do realise that misrepresenting the facts around Leaving the EU proved disastrous for the Remain campaign and resulted in a majority voting to Leave?

Those who don't learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it.

Driver 'forced by Essex Police to remove Brexit slogan'

"Two anti-Brexit campaigners say they were pulled over on to the hard shoulder of the M25 and told by police to remove a slogan from their car. Passenger Peter Cook said the officer was "extremely aggressive" towards them over the phrase "(removed) to Brexit". "He said it [the slogan] was a public order offence, he insisted we remove the signage on the hard shoulder of the M25," said Mr Cook.

The police were concerned that an anti-democracy slogan used by affluent middle-class haters of the working class would likely cause alarm and distress to those who support democracy and freedom.

If I were them, I would start with Europe. That place where we export 40% plus to.  Not sure why Australia and New Zealand are particular targets, we do next to no trade with them right now. Presume to appeal to the xenophobia of Brexiteers.

I see you're still using the Johnson / Cummings method for reporting the news ie making it up 😎

Of course, on planet Car Boot, no working class people voted remain at all - despite the majority of Labour voters backing remain.
