Consequences Of Brexit [Part 8] Read First Post Before Posting

Message added by Vaati

Mod Note: As we are getting rather tired of seeing reports about this. The use of the word Remoaners  is to cease. Either posts like adults, or don't post at all. The mod warnings have been clear.

In addition to remoaner we are also not going to allow the use of libdums or liebore - if you cannot behave like adults and post without recourse to these childish insults then please refrain from posting. If you have a problem with this then you all know where the helpdesk is.

I would love another referendum but it must include Remain.

I will leave it to the Brexit supporters to list the many versions of Brexit that can be envisaged.Good luck on that one.

There is no justification for Remain to be on the ballot paper on any hypothetical referendum.  There is an argument for a hypothetical referendum asking the electorate,  if they want the Withdrawal Agreement on offer from the EU or to leave the EU without a deal.

Simply because he (and seemingly no one else) is able to trust Johnson not to set a date for that election which allows the UK to crash out of the EU without anyone being able to stop it.

But asking the EU for an extension is still no guarantee that we will not crash out without a deal after that extension expires. If the EU do give an extension what next for parliament that they could not have done already?

It seems to be:

Ask for extension

Get extension

Kick can down road

Parliament then have to decide to either agree on the deal proposed or revoke A50, something that they could have already done in the past 3 years.

No, but what is does do is give us breathing space to look at where we want to go either by another referendum, a General Election where parties will campaign largely on their Brexit positions or the revocation of Article 50 altogether.

At the moment, the UK public are being excluded from a process which has been largely defined by the Conservative Party leadership election and a single individual’s promise made simply to win that election..

Another referendum can only take place if A50 is revoked first, and we have already had 3 years of breathing space.

The UK public, as you put it, have no say in the matter. Only those that are registered to vote do and that is limited to voting only. I notice that there seem to be many upset people who are not registered or allowed to vote who are the ones that are shouting the loudest.

Corbyn is more than happy to have an election once Johnson goes to Brussels and asks for an extension as required by Parliament.

What happens when the PM refuses to go ? Nobody can be forced to get on a plane and go to Brussels and beg for an extension.

Quite.

The PM could also just go to Brussels and ask for an extension of a year and then get turned down. Did parliament specify the length of any extension?
