Seems it was Jeremy Corbyn's letter to Boris Johnson that made him agree to hold a Cobra meeting. Boris didn't think it serious enough to merit it until Corbyn's letter which included these extracts;

 

"I am writing to urge you to hold a Cobra meeting and take personal charge of the Government response to the devastating flooding we have seen over the past few days."

'"With dozens of flood warnings still in place I have to disagree with your assessment that this is not a National emergency. If this had happened in Surrey, not Yorkshire or the East Midlands, it seems far more likely that a National Emergency would have been declared."

"Every year we don't act means higher flood waters, more homes ruined, more businesses decimated and more lives at risk due to climate change."

 

Mr Corbyn also said the Government must ensure  that the Insurance industry fulfils its responsibilities.

I'd have been happier if the local MP had shown up.  Clive Betts didn't show his face in Woodhouse during the floods at Woodhouse Mill last week.

 

Yet had the cheek to post some political leaflets moaning about the rising cost of water.  

 

Perhaps he should have been more concerned about the rising level of water.

Didn’t know she was promoting a book.  She will be after all the limelight she can get if that’s the case, to make a few million dollars from it.

If you live on a flood plain it should be clearly stated before you buy it that you will not get insurance, and that should be reflected in the price.

Exceptions are clearly stated on insurance premiums. So what is your point exactly?

Seems a bit quieter in here, as the Brexit Party  ex-PPC are tearing into Farage, and as the source of the Labour online hack has been confirmed to be in Russia whilst Johnson continues to sit abusively on that Russian report.

Or if a latter day Lib/Lab pact isn't feasible, and the LibDems really do care about Brexit, then they should stand down in enough seats to make a Labour victory a real possibility.  If they don't do something like that, we'll know that they don't care as much about Brexit as they say they do, but are just posturing.

 

If they try and fail, then so be it.  At least they could say they tried.

 

Unfortunately I don't think there will be any red faces about Russian interference.

There are only two parties or factions responsible our exit from the EU.The tail was Farage/UKIP and the dog was Cameron /Tories.

Let them take the credit or the blame but all the other parties are just bitpart players.

In the small print you mean. 

a) New Houses shouldn't be built on flood plains.

b) If they are, then the builders should state it loud and clear in letters 2 foot high so there can be no mistake, and the housedesign should take it into account, eg on stilts.

c) Insurance companies are supposed to cover risk, and flooding, like storm damage, is an event that cannot always be forseen and should be covered.
