You could partially make that claim of just about anyone. Tesco make plenty of profit from public service workers, for example. The origin of Skinner’s money is irrelevant in this case. You could also argue that public sector workers are paid from the taxation of everyone else. i do agree with you regarding Dennis though, a rare breed of politician, an honest one. He wasn’t afraid to argue his case against anyone whether it was the conservatives or Labour you couldn’t help but admire him. Parliament will be a poorer place without him. The folk in Bolsover carried on supporting Dennis Skinner for many years after he had told everyone a man should retire at 65 to make way for a younger man. Totally agree. tinfoilhat Posted January 13, 2020 Share Posted January 13, 2020 Sorry to say, he was past it. At 87 it's unrealistic to think he could do the hard yards of a local MP. He cast a long shadow - for better or worse - over bolsover and equally for better or worse, that's going to change. A fair chunk of his constituents weren't even born when the pits were open, and his record then wouldn't sway young voters, and arguably, why should it. NE Derbyshire didn't burst into flames when we elected a Tory MP, bolsover won't either (although I'm struggling to find positives). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
