Kibosh on that I’m afraid: after the new measures brought in by France today, looks like we can’t come over now.

B*ll*cks.

Are France playing politics, or are all non-EU countries treated like that?

The UK had travel restrictions on southern African countries before deciding Omicron levels in this country had reached levels were those restrictions would no longer be effective at slowing its spread. France still has its travel restrictions on southern African countries in place because it is still trying to slow initial infection rates (it's increased the restrictions on South Africa today). Because of our high Omicron infection rates, France treating us in a similar way to other high infection rate countries.

Probably a bit of both.

The UK is fast becoming a hotbed of Covid infection (again) under Omicron, so France is closing access like it did last time around. Since your government is not intent on getting a grip of the latest wave, there’s basically no choice here.

The UK is also still playing silly buggers with the TCA, fishing licenses, etc. and Macron is not going to let a political opportunity pass, as he takes the EU presidency at month end. Why else would Johnson have instructed the government to backpedal on the French bashing last week, and would the UK have dropped its anti-ECJ positioning this week?

Thats a shame

It would be for the mother in law, certainly. She’d have to spend Xmas on her own. Again.
