I think the pole is Stanage Pole, and the edge is Stanage Edge, so why the difference in spelling? I don't know. But it looks like an amazing place. Wish I could afford it! Sometimes it is 3.6 miles from at Hathersage station- by road it is 9 miles away. Sometimes it takes less than 10 minutes to drive the 6 miles to Broomhill Sometimes Manchester is a relatively short drive away over the Snake Pass." Brian Hardy Posted June 27, 2021 Share Posted June 27, 2021 We lived at Stanage Lodge for 15 years and bought it as Stanage Lodge,no idea why the spelling is different.The house was in a bit of a state as you could stand in the cellar and look up to see the roof.It was hard work living there as there was no mains water,electicity or gas and you got nine months of winter and three months of bad weather.There were some good times and running the clay pigeon shooting club we met some fantastic people.some of them who we still keep in touch with today.The parties were legendary and Christmases were just a dream as there was plenty of room for all the family to stay. The knock on the door at 2.00a.m happened a few times but it was nothing that a twelve bore could sort,joking apart it was always someone in difficulty that nine times out of ten were in lets say,a compromising situation. The house was repossesed by the bank because we were stupid enough to get involved with some very dishonest people who we trusted and we were taken advantage of in the most cruel way.It was heart breaking and led us to become very wary of getting close to other people ever again. Our two sons had a great time living there as everyday was an adventure and they would be happy to return but not at the current price tag!!!!!! I wonder if the map on the sales website shows where the post code is, not where the house is. With rural houses like that post codes are often a bit of a way from the house when you put them into Google Maps. I asked why the name has changed and was told it was always Stanedge Lodge on the deeds of the house, not Stanage. You must have spent a fortune on the place when you lived there to get it all done up from having holes in the roof like you say. What a lot of hard work and cash to expend only to have it all reposessed because of some chancer. That must have been awful. But I bet your sons had the best time growing up there.
