How and when? 'conspiracy theory' springs to mind.

Pricing people out of their cars would be an easy method, one example

Redesigning the road system would be another, maybe congestion charging, maybe fining people if they drive along certain routes, maybe outlawing cars that are over a certain age (ie 8 year old cars - initially, then maybe cars over 5 years old)

Only allowing electric cars to use roads at certain times.

Lots of ways to force people out of their cars, onto one bus per hour

Also I doubt any area, ever, has seen 80% of its residents move from driving to buses overnight.

If they were forced out of their cars then they would have to use the buses

Clean air zones they are a conspiracy too.

Taxis, vans charged now

Maybe next will be those diesels that are 10 years old.

Then in 12 months, maybe diesels that are 5 years old + maybe 10 year old cars

Then in 18 months maybe all non hybrid cars

The infrastructure is being built, it won't just be vans, taxis etc...that will be charged

Unworthy of comment - although I just have.

Yep - top form for posting dribble.

Not your ordinary, run of the mill dribble.

It's top class dribble, don't forget Rogets is university educated, and fought in 2 World wars.

A highly respected, privileged, poster.

Straight up question

Lets pretend 80% of the people in Sheffield decided to get rid of their cars and go by bus, how would that work?

Lets take a route like stannington, with 1 bus an hour for example, and lets say Stannington has a population of 5000 people, how could 5000 people fit onto 1 bus per hour?

18 buses per day x 70 capacity = roughly 1260 people per day can get onto a full bus (assuming 1 bus per hour)

What do the other 4000 people do, how do they get around, does this mean stannington gets 5 buses every hour to meet demand, 7 days a week?

And I haven't factored picking people up at Malin Bridge, Hillsborough etc.... as more people get on the bus

Thank goodness this guy does not work for the council , government or transport company because I have never come across such naive posting.

1. IF and a big IF 80% of people were forced to get rid of their cars it would not happen overnight (unless perhaps Rogets were in power)

2. The idea that all 5000 people in Stanington would wish to travel at the same time to the same place beggars belief

3. If a decision was taken to get people to abandon their cars then even our completely useless PTE and bus companies would do their best to ensure that there was sufficient transport by commissioning new buses and routes
