South Yorkshire Bus Service Needs Improvement

Interesting to note that at 6 weeks prior to the declaration date for bus services to be provided by operators after the removal of CBSSG funding there has been a deafening silence from bus operators and the government has reduced the notice period from 6 weeks to 4 weeks. Given that there are  still some services that SYMCA have not been able to provide and the likelihood that no further funding will be forthcoming its not looking good for bus services, not just in the area but across the whole country.

Time to buy an E-scooter maybe.

You never seem to see politicians, councillors, the great and the good or the wealthy on the  buses

Daft question, but do most Bus companies still have a Blakey (inspector) overseeing the drivers?

At the depots of large companies there are very definitely inspectors overseeing everything and monitoring all aspects of service delivery. Smaller operators tend not to do this.

Indeed. When they feel the need to reduce their carbon footprint and get on a bus, I might think about it...

If the early signs are correct you may well not be able to.  The recent reduction in services by mainly First in Sheffield look likely to be rolled out all over the network with all operators following suit. First services will be less affected as they have not taken the Government money with all its strings attached so effectively have proofed themselves against this new issue.

The services looking to be at risk are the lower use ones run commercially with government funding alongside many of the ones tendered by SYMCA.

Unless further funding is forthcoming many more services could well be cut.

Anna you have put your finger on what is a key issue and does not apply just to buses. Our ministers travel first class on the trains and do not have to worry about buying the cheapest ticket, they go through VIP channels at the airport and fly first class and if they are traveling on their own money then expect to be upgraded and still treated as VIP. they either go private for health care or simply jump the queue  and of course they send their kids to private schools even when they are against it for the nation as a whole

Why differentiate  whether it's Labour?

Politicians from both parties are taking us for a ride.

Everything isn't about political choices or doctrines.

It's about ordinary people being made fools off whilst politicians take the icing and cherry from the cake and fill their pockets.

On my scoresheet - Labour nil   Conservative nil
