But you said First and Stagecoach.

Good night.

Yes, because they make up a huge percentage of the bus fleet in Sheffield and the fact TM Travel still run a few clapped out buses still can't be used to make a sweeping generalisation of the state of buses in Sheffield.

What point are you actually trying to make here?  Don't go to bed, it's not even 7pm yet.

My wife who uses the buses most days to get to & from work often says that if the powers that be want to make a start to improve the overall transport experience, they could start by putting up some bus shelters on the south bound side of Arundel Gate.

Many of the stops were moved there back around 2018 / 19 & they still don't have shelters, yet you've got unused shelters standing on the now closed to traffic, Pinstone St?

There are piles of unused shelters at Swinton Interchange, next to the car park. The bus stop outside O2 Academy definitely needs a shelter, as it is very exposed with no buildings 'huddled' around it. Bus drivers also relieve each other there too, so they would be glad of it.

TSY also need to get rid of those ridiculous poles for seats and install proper flat seats. Who ever invented those pole perches is a sadist!

We made a couple of pole perches as test pieces for the Supertram stops

To whoever doubted SCC's bus-running ability: until 1974 and SYCC, all District Councils had bus-running powers.

The old Sheffield Corporation's buses weren't so bad.

Yes, they only lost a fairly small amount of money whilst other councils were making money.

It just shows how far backwards standards have gone.

Back in the day when Sheffield had a Bus Service, (before Thatchers de-regulation in 86)  funded for the public good without profit or loss coming into the equation, the average age of the fleet was 12 years under normal circumstances.

There is a reason for that, namely that after 12 years of shoddy maintenance they would cost a fortune to get through recertification that would be due then.

Mind, that didnt stop the ministry coming in twice and putting loads of death traps off the road. Happy days eh?

There are no shelters on Arundel  Gate at the point you mention for a good reason - the pavement is not wide enough. Also, although I will get shot down for saying this, SCC has a pathological dislike of the South/South-west of the city and its inhabitants.

SCC don’t decide where shelters are put in. That’s the responsibility of the MCA/PTE. They own them.

Actually, I know that, maybe I should have said the MCA/PTE have a pathological dislike. The point is though, that the design/layout of the footway in that area (AG southwards) is incompatible with the provision of shelters, which SCC should have been aware of when they decided to 'temporarily' change the routing of the buses..
