On the one hand we have a commercial transport company who want to make as much profit as possible, meaning price rises will be regular, and on the other hand a local council who doesn't want you to drive to and park in town (themselves excluded of course).

The operator of that service ( Stagecoach) were on the brink of collapse and had to be taken over by National Express.  Is that enough profit for you?

Has the merger been passed by the Competition authorities?  Last time I saw anything, it was being referred to Monopolies & Mergers.

It's being held by an investigation by the CMA however they say it's really just a formality and not expected to prevent the merger from happening by the end of 2022 as initially planned.

CMA are involved due to the overlap of the coach side of the businesses as Stagecoach own MegaBus.

Stagecoach have preemptively sold Megabus with this in mind and also to release funds to tide them over.

OK - thanks. Had other things to do, so not caught up on 'hobbies'.

I did know that - plus other 'outside' interests?

You think everyone who works at the Council has car parking in the city centre?

Add that myth to the list along with "streets councillors live on get priority for gritting" and "councillors earn a fortune"

No, but the people making the decisions that affect us do. They have been called out before as hypocrites.

In this "world of your own" what is preventing people from driving to and parking in town?

It isn't in a "world of my own". It is the real world that normal Sheffielders have to live in. Have you tried dropping anyone off at the City Hall lately?

Yes. Its not tricky to get to, if anyone is driving into any city centre blind without doing 2 mins research first then they are an idiot.
