SUTman
Hi there- Walt Fothergillis known to me, I believe he started driving at SUT around 1947. I imagine he would have been in his early thirties then. Ben Goodfellow was the General Manager at SUT from 1949 until 1967. Frank Carr BEM was a courier with the company having started with A F Hancock who later became part of SUT. He put in over fifty years service with the company.. Incidentally, Aaron Frost Hancock was originally a provisions merchant from Bamford owning many shops in Derbyshire. He later diversified into coaching and bus work before becoming part of SUT in 1935. However, he was nothing at all to do with Hancock & Lant of Ladys Bridge in Sheffield. Downsunder
Does anyone remember George Griffiths, he drove continental coaches for SUT in the 1960's
DaveGradwell
Thanks Alan52 - the pity of Peter Gould's otherwise excellent list (easily 'googled' for anybody interested - Peter Gould SUT Fleet List) is that he has not included the names. That is what I am trying to comprehensively compile now - with the invaluable help of others. If anybody recalls any specific names - and ideally the reg.no. or fleet no. that goes with it - it just may help our cause. There are just a few gaps left to fill. soft ayperth
When I was a kid in the 50s we used to go on day trip[s to Skeggie, Brid, Clee, etc. on SUT coaches. But if my memory serves me correctly, we used to line up in the a.m. on Snig Hill, not Pond Street. Ring any bells anyone or is my memory playing tricks on me? I don't remember Snig Hill but before SUT went into Pond Street we always caught the coach in Union St. , where they had a booking office. I suppose it's always possible that different destinations had different departure points i.e. East Coast from Union St., West Coast from Snig Hill etc. , but this is only a suggestion.
