Hook
I took a shot when it went. Spent 3 years there, quite sad, although it wasn't that good a building by modern standards I suppose. Video uploaded to here http://www.chasma.f9.co.uk/sorby/ If anyone can recommend an easy way to edit, I'd be grateful. Simon I've compressed it right down for web streaming, and it's now 1.8mb http://www.yourteesvalley.com/sorby_democ.mov It is a bit smaller now though, I can make it slightly larger if you'd prefer? Yerman
End of an era. I was on P floor in the annex in the late 60s/early 70s. Many fond memories of the characters of that era. I still drive past every day on my way to work.
Draggletail
Here's my video - The security people were very helpful in telling us when it was going to go No such luck here. I was stood up in greystones with a tripod chancing it The Helicopter was a good clue, though
purdyamos
Thank you to our roving SF reporters for their footage from every angle. I missed it this morning, but just watching the clips I suddenly feel very emotional about it. I saw my old flats had been demolished the other day. I suppose it's the end of an era for a particular type of student community.
Olive
We watched it from the main gates on Endcliffe Vale Road. Quite a gathering, great view. Can't get over how quickly it went though - three loud bangs and the whole lot dissapeared. Glad to see the place get a good send off.
holster100
Yep - end of an era. I was a P Floor boy in 1995-1996. Quite gutted to see it go. Sorby boys, Sorby winners, Sorby boys, Sorby dinners.
clogginchris
The recording of the University webcam of the demolition is here: http://webcam.cpanel.shef.ac.uk/sorby/ Shame there's no sound, but it's quite good quality. Draggletail was much faster though!

clogginchris
It is a shame about the sound (cos its from the webcam), but you can see the charges going off along the building which explains why it collapsed from one end
sea_doc
just reading the banner that the university placed on Sorby before it went "farewell Sorby Hall" and can't help but feel its not really appropriate - having been blown up there is no way a lump of concrete is gonna fare well!!!!!! Surely goodbye would have been a far more appropriate term. I'm very sad to see Sorby go - I lived there for 3 very happy years and remember it as one of the best times of my life E31, E35 and C7 I also was a tutot in Ernshaw but am glad to see the back of that place also was a tutor in Ranmoor can anyone make my day and tell me that's going too!!?!!
