I took a shot when it went. Spent 3 years there, quite sad, although it wasn't that good a building by modern standards I suppose.

End of an era.

I was on P floor in the annex in the late 60s/early 70s. Many fond memories of the characters of that era.

I still drive past every day on my way to work.

Thank you to our roving SF reporters for their footage from every angle. I missed it this morning, but just watching the clips I suddenly feel very emotional about it. I saw my old flats had been demolished the other day. I suppose it's the end of an era for a particular type of student community.

We watched it from the main gates on Endcliffe Vale Road. Quite a gathering, great view. Can't get over how quickly it went though - three loud bangs and the whole lot dissapeared. Glad to see the place get a good send off.

Yep - end of an era. I was a P Floor boy in 1995-1996. Quite gutted to see it go. Sorby boys, Sorby winners, Sorby boys, Sorby dinners.

It is a shame about the sound (cos its from the webcam), but you can see the charges going off along the building which explains why it collapsed from one end

just reading the banner that the university placed on Sorby before it went "farewell Sorby Hall" and can't help but feel its not really appropriate - having been blown up there is no way a lump of concrete is gonna fare well!!!!!! Surely goodbye would have been a far more appropriate term.

 

I'm very sad to see Sorby go - I lived there for 3 very happy years and remember it as one of the best times of my life E31, E35 and C7

 

I also was a tutot in Ernshaw but am glad to see the back of that place
