Mike Pitt, director of UK consumer selling at eBay, says "the change creates an "enhanced buying and selling experience"

I cannot perceive how holding on to people's money for 2 days can be an enhancement to a system.

What if it is a 10k car  that has been sold?

What kind of a silly person buys an expensive car on eBay to begin with? :loopy:

Surely it'd be a lot easier and less messy to go to an actual car dealership?

£10,000 was mentioned in the post you quoted.  A few clicks on ebay.co.uk shows that currently they have over 82,000 such cars for sale, and over 27,000 over £20,000.  People wouldn't post in such numbers if people were not buying them.

One possible concern for sellers; will this change make it easier for eBay to side with buyers (even more than they do already) and screw sellers over?

I mean, if they have more access to a sellers bank account.

I should have mentioned over 90% of my sales on Esty so far have been to foreign buyers based mainly in the US.  I personally think Etsy will get much bigger in the UK very soon.  I've seen adverts on television for Etsy.

What are the selling fees with Etsy? Looks like 14p to list, then 5 % Transaction fee, 4% + £0.20 payment processing fee?

So assuming an item sells, does that work out to 34p + 9%?

The secret to selling anything is to initially  price higher rather than lower because if necessary one can always reduce the selling price later if an item attracts little interest.

Absolutely, everyone loves getting a bargain, something that's been reduced in price.

I guess the other issue (aside from selling fees etc) is visibility, how does Etsy compare to eBay in terms of sales volumes. For example, if you were selling the same item, at the same price point on both platforms, how many % more sales might you expect on one platform compared with the other? Image eBay is currently higher?
