Wasn't it Iain Dowie (Crystal Palace manager) who coined the word 'bouncebackability' and Soccer AM that took up the cause with an on-line petition?

Other new inclusions, so I'm told, include Brand Nazi and Property Porn.

Have I been missing something?

Thanks to Sky, or so they claim. So thanks Sky, Thanks for another stupid made up word to be leapt upon by those who are unable to construct a proper sentence.

You aren't aware that language constantly changes then, and because people invent new words or 'nonce' words it doesn't make them stupid.

Pray, tell me what you think of Shakespeare, because he's responsible for a HUGE number of words in our language that he simply invented when he was writing. He made up words to fit his stories and we use them in everyday writing all the time now, was Shakespeare stupid and unable to construct a proper sentence?

There's a huge number of reasons why people use a word that isn't in the dictionary and hasn't been codified, and in this case Iain Dowie simply post-modified bounceback to fit his arguement, probably in a moment of passion and it's been used by other people. If they use it, the language has a need for it pure and simple.

And as a small correction, there's no such thing as right and wrong in the English Language, there's standard and non-standard, and therefore there can be no sentence that is no properly constructed.

ARRRGH! It really drives me crazy!

'course not redrobbo.

Although I suspect that anyone who could write:

"Once an industrial supercity, now a major contender for sh*thole of the decade."

might not be spending much time on the city forum.

Makes me laugh though to see how vitriolic someone can be about our fair town.

(Speaking of vitriolic... maybe it was 'arrrrrrgh'? :suspect: )
