Finding Jack

When he was manager of Sheffield Wednesday my son was sitting with his pals at the side of the road in Rivelin after they had been camping all night. He stopped his car and asked them if they wanted a lift. They accepted of course.

Many years later my younger son was salmon fishing in Scotland ,and Jack was fishing on the same bank. Jack hooked a salmon but asked my son if he would land it for him.

I lived in Preston when Bobby managed North End and Jack was in charge of Middlesborough.  I went to watch the teams meet at Deepdale. I think Middlesborough won 4-1 or 4-2. I think Jack did a pretty good job at Middlesborough but this didn't get a mention in the program.

It did mention this game and showed a clip of them both in the dugouts, it didn't mention the final score though.

I wish they had shown more about his time as manager of Sheffield Wednesday.

More? There wasn’t any. No problem with that, a promotion from the third division wouldn’t hold much interest for anyone outside Sheffield.
What did surprise me was no mention of his walking out of his dream job at Newcastle when he had Waddle, Beardsley and Gazza in his squad.
