Which begs the question why you need to inflict your second hand, selected and biased quotes about a fourth country on us?

It could be because of questions like yours  :)

Or it could be because your regurgitation of the left wing talking points, that are widely shared on most of the MSM, are repetitious and un-original.

Or maybe it's because the views of some here who live in a declining city, in a declining country, are archaic and provincial in a world that has long ago passed them by, as they go stumbling from crisis to crisis and war to war, yet they persist in espousing and endorsing the same failed policies.

But mainly it's because any view that does not conform to the current "conventional wisdom," is arrogantly dismissed and demeaned, and so are its posters.

Without a healthy discussion and  respect for other views, society dies.

Sheffield was once the 3rd largest British city in the British Empire, today its claim to fame is a shopping center (mentioned 26 times on Sheffield WIKI)). A popular movie was once made there, and they hosted the World Junior Games, back in the day!  :)

A "uni" but that serves mostly a transient population of outsiders from eleshere.

Oh and that cultural theater icon, best known as the home of the World Snooker Championship. Not exactly an A-List sport.

When the shopping "center" (located closer to Rotherham, than the City Center) can't compete with local shops, and online shopping. it will just be another Hole in the Road memory. Along with the super tramline to take you there.

Open up your closed minds, fer chrissakes!

Or. like Flo used to say, Never mind, love, as long as they're happy, let 'em get on with it!  :)

Just goes to show that you are living in the past when you are using the 'British Empire' as a starting point.

Conveniently, ignoring the Sports Persons (Jessica Ennis), Movie Stars (Sean Bean), World-Famous Musical Artists (Artic Monkeys), Oldest Football Club all originating out of Sheffield.

The highly reputable Universities which must be popular given the interest from oversea's students as well as local students.

The highly reputable Shopping Centre attracting visitors from all over (yes overseas too) which has been going since the 90's and continues to attract Big-Brand names.

The World-Famous Crucible Theatre for productions but also that internationally recognised sport attracting oversea's professionals too

(What sport does your paradise have?)

Yes, Sheffield is going through difficult times (as is everywhere else) but there is clearly a lot of re-development happening and it will improve over time.

But, of course, you wouldn't know about that what with you being in paradise.  Don't let that stop you looking down your nose though.

Home thoughts from abroad.

Lol

I have travelled pretty widely in the western world and have absolutely no desire to live anywhere other than Sheffield.

Climate, people countryside etc.are all what I grew up with and continue to appreciate.

Like most cities around the world it will continue to evolve because the reasons for their geographical location no longer apply.

Places reinvent themselves of necessity as most new business tend to grow up in a bubble of a few years before being overtaken by he next new wave of technology.

Your jaundiced view bears little relationship to reality, but there again that is pretty much par for your course.

Say hi to the guys at the Tiki bar.

I’m off for a meal at Prithiraj with 3 friends of long standing who also are much travelled but continue to live in Sheffield.

To each, his own!  :)

You're right about the countryside around Sheffield.

Thank god, your Sheffield Council never got their hands on the National Trust Peak!  :)

But Sheffield, is the Havana of development.

Look what's happening in those "foreign" countries  :)

Even lowly Wuhan:

i saw some of those videos the other day OMG how can he still be in office he is a bumbling old man he cant string any sort of sentence together and looks like he's on some tranquiliser ! cant wait for Trump to be back.

Yeah he definitely looks like he's not all there.

I doubt Trump will get back in office though.

Democrats would rather see him dead before they see him in the top job again.

Well, dead or in prison.

Irrelevant.

Regardless of anyones desire for Trump to be President again Biden needs to go. He's unwell and clearly just a puppet on a very unstable string.

His handlers should be charged with elder abuse.

Well we have good old Clement Attlee(Labour) to thank for the National Parks in 1949 plus the efforts of the lefties who campaigned for the right to roam

So thanks to him, (and Mother Nature!)

But I don't believe he was ever on Sheffield Council?  :)

More myths from the Houston Independent School District 2015 blog?

Sheffield was once the 3rd largest British city in the British Empire-In which year?

We have two Universities which like al established English Universities provide education for all that apply and meet entry requirements.

Sheffield hosted The World Student Games not the Junior event.

Since you seem so out if touch I cannot how slagging off Sheffield and its people helps you keep in touch- I have always found that it is better to balance the 'pros' and 'cons' than to embark on 'ex-pat' justification.
