Joe Biden The New President Thoughts So Far?

In a country that votes majority Democratic nationally it's perverse the Supreme Court is so weighted Republican

I'm not so sure the democrat/republican split of the court is all that important. The key is the quality of the appointee. Most of the judges who make it to the top tend take the duty quite seriously and show a first loyalty to the law/constitution rather than the president who nominated them or personal beliefs.

There are other alternatives like fixed terms and drawing the members at random from the federal judges. They might produce a "better" court which is harder to stack with court with judges of a particular opinion.

Surely the best option would be to make appointments independent and the judiciary independent of politicians. It's a farce how both parties try to load the court with their appointments and then pray they'll live for ages.

The obstructionists of the Republicans denied Obama's pick yet pushed through the nomination of  Kavanaugh who seemed to have questions to answer.

I can see the benefit of lifetime appointments  means the justices don't have to carry favour if the Party

More particularly, the Republicans argued that if a supreme court judge died in the last year of a term (a right wing one had died in Obama's last year) they shouldn't be replaced until after the election and the Democrats left it to the next president to pick a replacement. During Trump's last year left leaning judge Ruth Ginsburg died 6 weeks before the election and the Republicans rushed through a right wing replacement with indecent haste in five weeks - appointing her one week before the election.

The Republicans have unbalanced the supreme court with three appointees under Trump's presidency, it's not surprising that the Democrats want to, at least partially, restore that balance.

Apparently it's the 'any way method' of obtaining guns that Joe Biden is addressing. Starting with a crackdown on the proliferation of so-called ghost guns, or firearms assembled from kits.

It's a start, and I hope he will go further.
