Was Their Any Plans To Build An Underground Train Network In The Past?

I think what was proposed before was to link Victoria and Midland Station by a city centre loop.

I've seen the below map before showing what they had in mind back then.

With talk of opening Victoria again then to give it the best chance of success it would need to be linked to Midland station.

To access Midland from Victoria  it would be either reverse into Midland from Nunnery or build some viaduct, or reconfigure existing tunnels.  None are ideal.

This underground loop proposal would solve this problem and provide a chance to link up the widespread Sheffield City centre.    You could also consider adding more stops to reflect the current day.

Obviously a mammoth project and costs, but better to do it properly.

It would help Sheffield to close the gap on rival cities, providing links on a par with what Manchester and Liverpol have.
