How to shoot yourself in the foot.

What a mess for the Greens and LibDems one minute they win control through a coalition - success!

Then they throw away power by giving it up in never ending committee meetings- fail!

Hardly. Beforehand, they couldn't have known for certain that they'd win control. Perhaps it seemed like a good insurance policy at the time. After all, they didn't exactly sweep the board.

The referendum has chosen the committee system by 2/3 to 1/3.

Our local labour councillor has already informed the locals via facebook that the voters didn't understand what they were voting for and therefore this will be a disaster!

Maybe that is one of the problems Labour have, thinking that the voters don't understand what they want. Just a thought!

Isn't that what Labour always says, though? I recall the mantra from its explanation as to why it lost the last General Election and also the EU Referendum- that voters just didn't understand. How condescending.

Yes. The BBC news item appeared quite late, after a lot of prodding.

According to the BBC (see link in post  #134 above) :

'Labour Group leader Terry Fox congratulated campaigners on their achievement before saying he wanted to use the result "as a positive opportunity to improve how the council works".'

As condescending as Tories sneering at people in places like Hartlepool for years and saying "you could put a red rosette on a donkey and they'd vote for it" (snigger at the northern proles)?

I wonder how many times the people of Hartlepool have to vote Tory for some old Tories to say "hehe, you could put a blue rosette on a donkey and they'd vote for it" (snigger at the northern proles)

Their 'Latest Updates' section did first mention it at 11:44 with more detail following at 12:16 and they did mention it on the TV regional lunchtime news so it's not like they were ignoring it. Given there's a mention of the new leader of the Sheffield Labour Group 5 minutes before the referendum result article was published and there's a quote from him in the latter it's possible they were waiting to get quotes from the main parties concerned before publishing it.

So? Doesn’t negate what my councillor said.

The council was already a disaster so let's hope things improve

What did they get wrong that you expect to improve now there is NOC?

So many people complain, but don't say why.
