I can't see any reference to wanting more money for completion in that article?

there is something if you follow the link in that link....

takes you here

"The works will be mainly funded through a successful Levelling Up Fund bid"

it's something that's been popping up quite a bit recently : there are projects all over the place (country) that are being funded by government grants - that were costed 3 years ago, only to find that contractor prices have risen 20-30% (often much more!)

This one I guess.

I would rather see the land sold to developers. Is there anything much left of the castle ruins worth keeping?

Never mind the castle . Why put a mock up out showing the finished article when they know there’s a good chance it wouldn’t be finished like that . I notice in the link you provided there was no mention of needing extra money.0

Why do  Castlegate shops keep getting mentioned- there was never any shops on there ( only bus stops)  except a betting shop next to the old Bull & Mouth pub. Perhaps what's meant is the triangle of Castlegate. Waingate and Exchange Street?

Shame that it wasn't at least kept in a serviceable and weathertight condition by the owners (SCC I think) and then refurbished and incorporated into the current plans for the site behind it.

Now it's knackered and needs demolishing, agreed, but a pity it has got to that point..

The incorporation of older buildings/facades into new schemes (Pinstone/Cambridge St for example) adds to those new schemes in my opinion.
