No, not really. Communism does not have many now either.

You misunderstand, I didn't suggest socialism was authoritarian as it is democratic but when you have socialist state run monopolies like the UK had its the government that runs them so the community have no say in any of it. Unless it's the Unions of course..... ;)

Well, quite. I've got little influence on Eons pricing at the ballot box though - or in any other way.

And if E-On (and all the other suppliers suddenly became 'GB Electric', would have any more??

I would every 5 years at the ballot box. That's the brexit argument right?

In reality, most energy prices are dictated by markets as much as company policy.

What has 'brexit got to do with it?

At least your second sentence makes sense.

Are you being obtuse or thick?

If the government are running the utilities, I get to vote out the government and vote in somebody else who will run them differently or sell them, every 5 years.

I think there will be a countries trying out UBI in the next few years, probably the ones who already those who look after the worse off better than we do. We won't do it.

(1)Neither - and I don't appreciate the implied insult, but it is to be expected, I suppose.

(2) Will they?

(3) At least that is back on topic.

Spain are going to trial it, wouldn't be totally surprised if some of the other Scandinavian countries have a go (but some of them offer almost furlough-esque levels of unemployment support anyway) - New Zealand have a big majority and I wouldn't be surprised if they go for it.

But we won't. We don't want people getting something for nothing.

Ahh but Spain aren't though. Spain has the second highest unemployment rate in the EU so they need something else and that is called the Minimum Vital Income scheme (MVI) and is similar to Universal Credit as it is means tested. As they are 16th most highly indebted country in the world going straight for UBI would be disastrous for them.
