Social Care - Increase Tax Or Not.

Scotland remained part of the EU with the rest of the UK until the whole of the UK left at the end of January 2020 meaning they stayed in the EU longer than if they had voted for independence in 2014. No promises could be made for Scotland to remain in the EU for ever because Scotland were only ever in the EU as a consequence of being part of the United Kingdom.

Promises *were* made and as such circumstances have changed.. as before, sauce for the goose.

Let's not forget that a significant portion of the problems with social care are also a result of Brexit, certainly staffing and funding... it's not all the fault of the pandemic. :?

The problems with social care pre date Brexit by a mile. They've been gathering pace for 40 years when the system was changed, and much exacerbated by the Tory ethos of 'rolling back the state,' and privatising everything.

Basic health care is going the same way with much of it now outsourced to private companies.

Remember when pre election the Tories said 'The NHS is not on the Table'?

They lied.

Quite so, but Brexit has certainly exacerbated those problems... in the long run, probably more than the pandemic will.

Thank Goodness Labour changed that when they came into power in 2010..........

The thing is, there are some positives to privatisation.   That's why when Labour finally come to power again nothing will change.

It’s busy offsetting the lossy side of the Brexit Profit & Loss account.

That  NI tax hike isn’t getting spent on social care, it’s getting spent on the NHS first, for the next 2-3 years, i.e. until the next GE.

That's been swallowed up by the extra funding given to the NHS as a consequence of funding pandemic related expenditure.  You should be embarrassed for quoting that figure given the circumstances.

Borrowed money on the never never... *that* £350m has been swallowed up, and then some, on customs and border costs alone as a result of Brexit.

It's costing far more per week now, than EU membership ever did... and will do in perpetuity. That's before any economic knock-on is taken into account, and currently they're looking to be considerable.

As before, Brexit won't help the NHS, social care, mental health services or any other problem in the UK...

...you literally voted to make all of these issues worse, with no concept of what any of it meant from the outset! :?

I’d have taken EU  membership a lot more seriously if I were on one of the £40K p/a French State Pensions.
