top4718
Just noticed in the credits to the WWII classic The Bridge on the River Kwai that the above named Sheffield engineering company designed the iconic wooden bridge used in the film, does anyone know anything about them? pattricia
I believe they also designed the Jodrell Bank Telescope.
Jim Hardie
1 hour ago, pattricia said: I believe they also designed the Jodrell Bank Telescope. That’s correct. They were on Glossop Road and were taken over by Mott MacDonald a few years ago. https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/topic/112895-husband-amp-company/ https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/2320266.bridge-over-river-kwai-engineer-dies/ Edited October 8, 2021 by Jim Hardie

Macatack
Hi, looking to trace Dr David Philip Burton who worked at husbands in the 70’s. I believe he married and went to live in Ireland, not sure of exact dates. I was at college in Nottingham and myself and other fellow students would like to make contact again. Tipstaff
I believe the University of Sheffield took over the Husband Building, 388 Glossop Rd in the 1980's.
