Turn right at the end of Arundel Gate, round to charter Square first right and there is a huge car park within a 1-minute walk from Division Street.

Alternatively, you could follow the main arterial road up from West bar, turn left onto Rockingham Street, cross over West Street and park up anywhere which again will be a 1-minute walk onto Division Street.

Further alternative you could simply enter charter row from the main roundabout, first left to Eldon Street and pull up anywhere which again will be a 1 minute walk onto Division Street.

Talk about making a drama out of nothing.  Just looks like another pathetic excuse to do a bit of slagging off of the city centre.

trouble is she had a load of papers and a lap top and it was for an important meeting and it was p***g down so no a car park is not the best to walk for that especially in heels.

Drama you say na thats a socialist entitled thing?

1) Why did you try to get to Division Street from Arundel Gate? It's on the far side of the very centre of town from Arundel Gate. Imagine driving to the main entrance of Meadowhall then complaining that you can't drive through the middle of the shopping centre to Marks & Spencers. Division Street is (easily) accessible from Ecclesall Road roundabout > Charter Row > Rockingham Street.

2) The pedestrian areas have been very busy all weekend, and - give or take the working from home situation at the moment - I imagine it's fairly busy around town during the week too. But cars aren't allowed in those pedestrianised bits, so it's no wonder you didn't see anyone.

I'm not going to try and convince anyone that Sheffield city centre is a patch on Leeds or Manchester for shopping & office jobs, but honestly, it is nonsense that no one goes there (there's 10,000s of residents for a start), and frankly, a multitude of car parks/drop-off points are easily accessible from the ring-road - you just need to do a few seconds journey planning. It shouldn't surprise anyone in the year 2021 that you aren't allowed to drive a car through the middle of one of the biggest cities in the country.

That great oxymoron of Sheffield life that so many folk love to exhibit: that they 'never go to town anymore', yet come on Sheffield Forum every 5 minutes to tell us how terrible town is these days.

The irony of you trying to tell us no one uses the city, in a post that begins with you telling us you took your partner to meet someone in the city for a business meeting. Wow.

1. we were seeing a bespoke jeweller over the other side of arundel st so thats why we were going that way.

2. pedestrian areas prob packed with homeless so called beggers, to be honest it didnt look a nice area and was dead this morning.

why is that ironic that she was having a business meeting  in sheffield??? she oversees 250 licencing premises in the north of englandfor a big chain and it was to discuss a couple of venues which may close.....now thats ironic!!

I would never dream of driving into a city I was unfamiliar with without doing the slightest bit of research first.

A few years ago I had the task of dropping something off at a bar in Nottingham. Looked to be buried deep within the mainly pedestrianised section of the city and Google Maps didnt make it clear if a turn was permitted, in the end I ended up emailing their Transport department to get some clarity.

very familiar with Sheffield and its such a shame it is like it is, hence why we moved!

Sheffield city centre has its issues for sure but my god, people that moan about it need to get out and travel more. There’s a lot of good stuff too. Try going to lots of other UK cities - you can’t park for free, retail is struggling, there’s lots of student accommodation… I always think better of Sheffield when I come back from somewhere else!

What if that's the case, presumably like myself she will be well experienced in the realities of traveling on business.

It will therefore hardly be an unreasonable  expectation that one will not get chaperoned directly from door-to-door in any sort of city centre setting. I suspect that not all of those 250 venues she oversees are conveniently perfectly placed alongside a main road where they can just park up, hop out and get inside

Like I said earlier, seems to me like a bit of a lame excuse for some Sheffield City Centre bashing.

P.s. as a bit of future reference if you would have come around the the main ring road up and over Rockingham St and onto Calver St you will have been able to temporary stop on Division Street in any event. Maybe your route planner needs a bit of an upgrade.
