You'd be amazed how much of the NHS is in the hands of private companies.

No we wouldn't, because the newspapers have always reported it, ever since Andy Burnham's days as Health Secretary for Labour.

Six pence in every healthcare pound is spent with the private sector, according to official figures.

Clapped Out: Is the NHS Broken? Dispatches channel four

Eighteen months into the worst pandemic in a century, this hard-hitting special travels the country asking some tough questions about the performance of our much-loved NHS.

Did anyone see the full program?

I saw part of it and our NHS needs some TLC.

I am thinking about leaving a few thousand to the NHS in my will, but I am hoping that I wont die for at least a decade.

Thanks for posting the link to the documentary, which I had not been aware of and was well worth watching. It is still available to watch if you missed it.

My sense is that there is a lot more wrong with the NHS than a shortage of funding - although we do underfund - and this programme highlighted some examples of those problems including the high rate of medical error, the failure to learn from errors including because of prioritising a supposed need to fight liability and the targeting of whistleblowers.

Probably because they're not governed by the Evil Tories.  Do you think that might have something to do with it?

If it was just down to the Tories, then shouldn't the NHS in Scotland (my home country) be flourishing under the control of the SNP?   Its doing no better than England.

The model is outdated, it was set up when there were far fewer life prolonging medications, when people died much younger, and when no-one thought of rocking up to an accident and emergency department unless they'd had a serious accident, or were suddenly very ill.     Even before the onset of Covid, and the subsequent shortages of medical staff, A&E departments were struggling with numbers, along with false callouts, and abusive 'patients'.

the NHS is full of too many chiefs and not enough Indians ....no pun intended, the waste is horrendous , i went for a simple inter bone joint injection a few weeks ago  called fluoroscopic and its under x ray, no anaesthetic needed just a local , it takes 5 mins max then home.

well i was treated as if i was undergoing major heart surgery, gowns , stockings, paperwork, a bed in a day ward, sent to the operating theatre recovery room for recovery  OBS. why why???  total overkill. what next a general anaesthetic for butterfly stitches??

Course it’s broken - it’s a health service that apparently (amongst other things) requires us all to work from home , wear masks and stay away from people we don’t know in case it is overrun.

I'm fed up of Boris' lies. There is a huge shortage of doctors according to a doctor pundit on TV. There are more leaving the service than coming in. They're now considering strike action. The Pandemic has shown up the shortcomings of 10 years of continuous cuts to the health service under the Tories.

Blimey, is it that time of year again?

I'd be more shocked the day they are not considering strike action.

oh please we have heard the NHS staff bleating about low pay for years and years and strikes its nothing new, if you dont like working in the industry and what it pays go elsewhere!  and please dont keep banging on how bad the tories are , take a good hard look at the socialist years , wilson , kinnock, bliar!!! the shortcomings of the pandemic is worldwide and never seen before so how do you plan for that???

oh also as for shortages and lack of resources is partly that the population has grown legally and illegally over the last 15 years it was never meant to cover that!
