Symptoms Of Long Covid

Recommended Posts

I caught up with an old friend today I haven’t seen in some time who has “Long Covid”.  It is  causing fatigue, joint pain, palpitations and tinnitus.  Does anyone have any experience of how long this may last and tips to help speed up recovery? (My friend is already seeing a doctor about this but advice for people who have had this would be welcomed).

I still have the fatigue,  had joint pain but have had the knee op so don't have the pain now,  try Flavin which is an anti-flammatory & can be taken with

Paracetamol.

All I can suggest is healthy eating and exercise, within limits so it doesn't exacerbate any existing problems.
Gently taking up something you enjoy will likely help lift spirits and make them feel better overall.
I'm not being dismissive of the issue, as I still have the after effects after 4½ years.
Hopefully the doctor might make a referral to a long covid clinic.
The respiratory consultant at NGH asked my GP to refer me to one; when pressed on it, the GP just said it would be pointless, as they were only for research purposes, and they wouldn't learn anything new from me.
I've now changed GPs 🙂

Thank you, I didn’t know about Flavin.

Thank you for this.  My friend is trying to build up more walking but the joint pain is problematic.
It is interesting you mention changing GPs as my friend’s doctor is somewhat sceptical of Long Covid and suggests it is psychosomatic.

Assure your friend it's very real with some people, though I obviously can't speak for them.
e.g. I'm someone who has always gone out walking, normally with a camera, on nature type walks.
Due to various other commitments , I was a bit unfit back in Jan2000, but still quite happy with a 12mile walk.
I  had a dabble with Covid before it became popular in Jan of that year, and even when largely recovered, after maybe 3 months, I was only comfortable going 6/7 miles, which I did continue quite regularly, until I picked Covid up again in March last year; I'm now down to about 4 miles in comfort, though I could rest for a bit and do another 4 OK. previously I wouldn't have needed to take a break.
A really noticeable thing the first time around was hearing loss; I know what number the TV was set to, in order to hear well enough to follow dialogue; During, and still post, Covid, I needed about 3 points higher. This was before vaccinations of course.

Yes long Covid does exist , in fact , some of us that worked the front line got it . It's not nice . I was lucky I didn't get it . I was protected while I worked on Covid wards , but went & got Covid once I moved back to downstream , as did others .Luckily , it was short term , unlike  some of my friends who got long Covid

Be careful with Flavin , because it contains Lipids , which if you have high cholestrol , is dangerous

Also , it contains Ibuprofen , which if you are known to have gastric problems , it is also dangerous , unless you take PPI , which are medications like , Lansoprazole , Omeprazole for example , this can protect the stomach from irritation .

I think hearing loss is an underreported issue with Covid.  The friend with Long Covid now suffers with tinnitus and a know a few other people who have had hearing loss after Covid.  One is now very deaf in one ear and needs a hearing aid.
