A few years later 1980/81 the Blades were in a similar position but the Sheffield Star decided not run a campaign. The Blades were relegated May 2nd 1981 after losing to Walsall. Sheffield City Council and the Star have always favoured those at S6. If I recall: The 'Save Our Owls' slogan was plastered on the side of Sheffield buses too, probably paid for by the Star. monzaman
This is the era when me and all my mates stopped buying the Star, we always knew they were biased towards S6 but this was just the icing on the cake. I carried on buying the green un for a few more years to keep up with results but eventually packed that in as well

Story goes that they always thought they were much more massive than the city of Sheffield and so refused to carry the city's name. In fact about 1989 or 1990 Sheffield Wednesday Football Club plc dissolved and a new company Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Ltd was formed. It's all a bit like Trigger's broom in Only Fools and Horses.

Good gracious me , this has opened a can of prunes, So many companies ,people , Countries no longer exist , They have been espurged from the history of the World (what was that called before it was the World one wonders ) . One of my favourite artists singer Bob Dylan is not Bob any more , he is a fake , a imagination as before 1959 he was called Robert Zimmerman , The faking twaaat should be outed , his records like Wednesdays ripped up and burnt on Olive Grove or just for historys sake the cricket pitch on Bramall Lane , now stolen from us cricket lovers by stealth and devious football followers of Sheffields now oldest club formed it seems in 1889 . Everton FC we’re formed 14 years prior to Liverpool FC but resisted incorporating their city into their name, does this constitute a lack of respect?
