Ukraine: Invasion Imminent?

For exactly the same reason human beings can't or any other animal species.

Power, dominance, possession, self survival....  it's just inbuilt.

We are supposed to be better than animals (debatable) and have the power of verbal communication, intelligence and reason. We are also supposed to have evolved into a higher, more responsible species.

We know that cooperation works, and we have enough resources for everyone.

Unless we learn to curb those baser instincts that you mention (which are not about survival anymore, but greed,) there's every chance we will blow the human species to oblivion before the end of the century.

Worth the effort of working things out peacefully, don't you think?

But its not only about greed though. You have neglected to include one important aspect in all that and that is religion, although in this case its not much of a factor. We have religious terrorism and internal terrorism because some religions do not tolerate democracy or freedom of expression or equality. Until that shifts we will always be the way we are.

Putin should realise that if he wants Ukraine to be a friend and a partner with Russia, this is more likely to be achieved  through  friendship and being good to them,

rather than threatening them with invasion.

Before we act in such a self righteous manner, we should remember that we are always invading other countries, such as Iraq and Putin never had a go at us.

Are we going to let a third world war start through sheer stupidity on both sides? We have fought to keep Northern Ireland and The Falklands and neither should belong to us.

World War 3 couldn't have happened last year as it would have been too dangerous for ww3 with covid going around.

Now covid is out of the way it's now safe to have a war

I'll give you that up to a point. But it's not just religion in isolation, it's religion mixed with culture and genuine grievances,  male dominance and power.

We have a lot of internal terrorism because we have been bombing the sh** out of these people for years. We have also dominated them, ruined and exploited them. They're a bit upset about it...

It's easy for the western powers  to say it's all about religion when it's not, to make sure we don't ask too many questions. I hate to say it, but there's a lot of money to be made from wars, as long as you're not the one under the rubble.

The biggest euphamism of all is 'peacekeeping forces' which actually means killing people and subjugating populations to our culture and  values, whether they want it or not.

But look at what has happened in Afghanistan since we have given them their freedom back, is that about religion or not? The same goes for many other countries we have meddled in, as soon as they get their independence they mostly go downhill. From the early years of conquest it has always been about religion and wealth. In England , in Europe, in S.America, in India and Pakistan and in a lot of the African countries including N.Africa today. The poorer countries are fighting wars and in most cases its not about wealth, its about control and religious control.

That is a fair point. Also crossed with some of the buzzwords in my own post.

Power.... dominance.... possession....

Any of those words could easily be applied to the cults of religion.  Control and coercion of the weaker populace into following or emulating the rulings and so-called teachings of some supreme all powerful controlling being based on fairy tales.

Yes, I have no hesitation in saying that all that lot and their ridiculously influential and wealthy preachers can get straight in the bin as well.
