That is being discussed according to the News this morning. The truth is NATO have moved their goalposts since it was first formed. I stand to be corrected but I understood the founding members of NATO were concerned the then Soviet Union could attack or invade West Germany.

As I understand it, when the Berlin Wall fell NATO agreed to not move east.

Putin is a gangster and money launderer , but he is the Worlds top leader , He is populer among Russians still  despite carving up all the banks , industry , oil , gas and the rest of his Country's wealth among his closest advisers .

They then stash all these billions in London property and financial institutions .

Our Government allow him to , so they are all shiiittttting in the same box , our banks , bankers and financial houses .

We will not get involved for all the tea in China .

Can you imagine if Scotland voted for independence, and got friendly with the Russians..

The Russians, in agreement with the Scots, decided to build a military base there..

NATO would be in uproar.

Same scenario in reverse.

A better analogy, and one that Westie might understand, would be:

Can you imagine if, after brexit, the EU supported politicians wanting close links with the EU to the extent that they poisoned leading hard brexit supporting politicians. A few years ago they invaded and occupied the Channel Islands and have remained there since. They are also providing separatists in the SE who want to rejoin the EU military support (including not so secretly sending their own troops to support them).

The Ukrainians want to join NATO because they see it as the only way to stop Russia from further encroaching into their country.

The question you should all be asking yourselves is "Should the Ukrainians be allowed to decide their own destiny?"

Of course they do - they know a 'war' would be costly, and they are flexing their muscles to see how the West (especially the USA) react. Cold War tactics.

What you mean is America and NATO want to put missiles in the Ukraine along Russia border and Russia is rightly annoyed at this.

The only ones banging the drums of war are nato and the US and of course all the media outlets who are paid to do their bidding.

I won't disagree with that - the US especially is in 'stirring' mode, led as usual by an old man who is being manipulated, and Russia is quite happy to play up to them. Neither side, apparently willing to see the danger - but the U.S. doesn't care, 'cause 'they're big' and Russia doesn't care, 'cause 'they're big' too.
