You Can't Have Your Parcel, Yet. I'm Too Early!

Recommended Posts

Well! That's a new one on me.

DPD parcel due today and I have the email confirming the 60 minute slot for expected delivery.
All as expected.

Van arrives and (regular) driver brings the parcel to the doorstep.

He greets me and apologises as he is too early and we will have to wait a minute before the "system" will allow his hand-held device to record the delivery.

He wasn't joking.

The world's gone mad. I tell yer!!

I assume this is because the routes the drivers take are programmed to the nth degree, if the system showed them as being early for a dropoff it may flag up as them potentially cutting corners, not delivering parcels elsewhere etc. Seems reasonable.

Saying that, he could have just sat in his van for a minute.

I've found them very good too. You can send big heavy boxes to most places in the country for about £8 and they usually arrive next day.

I wouldn't fancy being a van/lorry driver now due to being tracked every inch. back in the good old days you could pop in a cafe for a break or go home as soon as the job was done, nobody on your back.
