South Yorkshire mayoral election 2022  

 

What are your thoughts ?  I cant really find a lot of information om what the candidate are promising  or full manifesto.

 

To be honest  Dan Jarvis IMO did nothing,  so I'm a little hesitant on labour this time even if I like what they are promising .

Not many people do. 

 

Considering what we pay the mayor these days, we should be able to see a difference, but I can't see what he does.

Isn't there a chief executive or something that deals with everything? Same with the 'police commisioner'- why are we wasting money on these positions if nothing ever changes?

 

Is that row still going on between Mayor for south yorkshire, and Mayor for all the rest of Yorkshire?

Don't ask me. 

I'm appalled at the lack of communication between these people and with the people who live in the area.

We just pay their wages that's all.

Whether we're calling it 'The Sheffield City Region', or 'The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority',

 

it didn't even really exist *when* he got the job, he had to persuade the leaders of Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley,  to ... effectively give up some of their powers, to the new office (in return for increased funding).

 

There was a very real chance the whole lot was going to fall apart. He did a decent job getting them all to sign up.

 

Do you remember when Cameron got in Trouble for saying something like "we knew Yorkshire hated us, but we didn't know they hated each other" - he was talking about the difficulty in setting up combined regions in Yorkshire.

 

IIRC, some of the funding and powers have only just come through...?

 

(the government, and the mayor are still arguing about buses)

If only those in power who work for and are paid by the people communicated better with those same people
