In the last general election the Tory party bettered the 2010, 2015 and 2017 results which is unprecedented for any UK governing party. Council elections attract a very low turn out of the electorate compared to general elections and it's a fact opposition parties supporters are more motivated to vote than ruling party supporters. The truth is the Tory party privately will be delighted how poorly the Labour party have done in the council elections and it guarantees Boris Johnson will lead the Tories in the next general election which is bad news for the Labour party. But the Tories should also be worried about their massive losses, and will be worried will that cost more in the GE, you can ignore it, and carry on, which is a gamble. Sensible people would look at the problem and try and fix it though? Surely any sane person looks at the root cause of an issue and tries to fix it? The Tories will only have a problem winning an outright majority at the next general election if Boris Johnson is not the Tory party leader. The truth is and the truth is uncomfortable for a number of Tory MPs is that Boris Johnson as Tory leader fighting a general election prevents any chance of there being an hung parliament. hes NOT the messiah hes a very norty boy
