crookesey
I tell you what, I’ve been with Shell Energy (previously First Utility) for donkey’s years, however when/if things settle down I will definitely leave them, unless they do something to help their customers now. I reckon that I will not be on my own with this decision, can Shell Energyafford to ignore their customers?

Doesn't everyone just use the cheapest supplier, sometimes ones that will not go bust. Some companies have gone bust, but they compete on price. People are choosing to use the companies making millions, it's their choice!

I remember recently telling the story on here of when they took over the Post Office Broadband accounts and I decided to change to another supplier... ... but no-one seemed interested, so I'll not bother repeating it! The government defended the huge bonuses and payouts to bosses of energy companies that went bust, and effectively nationalised as part of bailout that could cost taxpayers £2.2bn. It really angers me that yet again profits are privatised, but losses are nationalised.

Unemployment was also very high amongst the young. Not sure if they could cope without their mobile phones for any length of time now! Notice how modern government have also now prepared their civil defences very well with modern equipment for that "just in case" scenario. I don't remember it being 'the opportunist young' rioting in the poll tax riots, I seem to remember it being very much a cross section of society out on the streets. I also think that the times are very similar to the poll tax riots. And don't forget the looting and burning London riots in 2011. There are plenty of protests going on almost weekly but they are not getting any coverage in MSM for obvious reasons. The Tories like to talk (constantly) about the winter of discontent in the 70s, but they were nothing compared to the Tory's record for bringing ordinary people to the boil till they actually take to the streets! Meanwhile the government is quietly preparing for trouble by passing new laws to prevent protests (our last freedom) which tells you all you need to know. Even Martin Lewis was predicting civil unrest on his TV programme. Edited July 29, 2022 by Anna B

(We must reclaim the word “elite”, from the true elite). What we need is civil disobedience. Put your heating on. Boil the kettle. Stick the gas fire on. Then refuse to pay the inflated bill. Stuff them and their massive profits. If we all did that, what happens next?

The energy companies compete with each other. There are alternatives, coal, wind, solar, bottled gas or oil. We prefer our energy piped in, the alternatives are too much effort.
