Struggling With The Cost Of Living?

Perfect example of that last night on this very thread. A poster who simply gave their opinion was then singled out and made fun of until they left the thread.  Absolutely despicable behavior. That poster was then accused of trolling by the bully who was the one actually doing the trolling.

A very scummy thing to do.

I don't call anonymous people bullies. (In fact I rarely, if ever, feel the need to take them seriously)  :)

You can't really be bullied by an anonymous cheap insult, on a public forum.

It's all part of the give and take, on these outlets. I think letting them blow off steam, keeps them from hurting folks in real life!

It's all good!  :)

The UK spent 5.4 billion pounds on the prison system last year. The idea of feeding, clothing and looking after criminals is fine in a rich country but that is not us anymore.

We have had some serious cases of people being freed from prison only to kill, rape, abuse, stalk and carry on their illegal activities.

When is the UK going grow some balls and say "enough is enough" pandering to liberal voices. Life prisoners should be organ donors and dog meat.

An extra 5.4 billion pounds would be better spent on the NHS and getting those on utlity payment meters at the same rate as everyone else.

This dosent happen much but I disagree with you there. It's very easy for somone to be/feel bullied by an anonymous cheap insult especially when that insults results in further posts where the poster is again targeted.

Not everyone can handle being insulted. For many reasons these insults can cause confusion(why am i being targeted?) and distress.

A search of the Internet will tell you that the UK is still the 5th or 6th richest country in the world apparently.

Yes,  I know to look around,  it doesn't look like it.

This is a long Twitter thread, but very interesting.

Richard Murphy is a Professor at Sheffield University. He’s written quite a few of these threads, but this one is full of information about how energy prices don’t need to be as they are. It details how the government could easily force the industry to reduce prices by over 50%, whilst still making a profit. Simultaneously saving lives, businesses and driving down inflation.

Worth ten minutes of any one’s time.

It's game for some folks, not a place to have a rational discussion. and that's how a few posters finish up in lockstep and will not tolerate any views but their own.

So poitical discussion forums end up being frequented, and 'owned' by one side of the political spectrum or the other.

Some websites have discontinued their comments sections, for that reason. The Hill, Discover Magazine more recently. Some don't even have a comment section, like the CNN, Guardian, and others, like the WashPost, and NYT are so heavily moderated (read biased) that a respectful and polite comment can disappear with no explanation.

FoxNews comments section is likewise their choir preaching to their choir.

So it is, what it is.

I prefer a free for all where all views can be expressed.

And looks like our SF fills that gap. Thanks to the moderators.  :)

My minority conservative/libertarian views, have generated much name calling and petty personal insults, but I'm not here to make friends so it goes over my head.

If you can't stand the heat, the simple choice is to stay out of the kitchen!  :)

How about a non violent serial burglar, rummaging around your house, while your kids are asleep?

Look, everything costs these days.

The problem is we have a government that knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing.

How it spends our money is a real problem that we have no control over.

A simple solution would be to force thieves, burglars, vandals, shoplifters, looters and the rest to pay full financial restitution to their victims, and a hefty fine that increases with each offense.

Until they have discharged that debt  fully to the society they have pillaged and looted, they should be denied the privileges of said society, like voting, drivers license, passport, or government employment.

Parents of minors who commit such offenses, subject to the same penalties.

Would cut down on crime, drastically and maybe make productive citizens out of career scofflaws, and more resposible parenting, all in one. Might put a lot of lawyers, useless "social workers" out of a cushy job, too!

As long as crime pays, it continues. Criminals work on the theory, "if you cant do the time, don't do the crime". They'll get the message.
